A man will appear in Maitland Local Court this afternoon after a woman was allegedly discovered tied up inside his house early this morning.

Police said they found the 30 year woman with her hands and feet bound inside the Curtin Street home in East Maitland after being called to the property around 3am.

Police also allegedly seized a firearm at the address.

The 38 year old man was taken into custody and charged with possessing a loaded firearm as well as taking and detaining with intent to obtain advantage.

He has been refused bail ahead of his court appearance.
 
The woman was given a medical checkup at Maitland Hospital as a precaution, but it is believed she was not injured.
