Queensland Police are considering charging a woman who rang Cairns paramedics just after midnight this morning claiming her baby had stopped breathing.
The hoax was discovered after two ambulances arrived at the woman's house in White Rock, the Nine Network is reporting.
Another two intensive care paramedics were turned back from Cairns Base Hospital after the true situation became apparent.
Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman Andrew Christie has told the network this type of call was considered very disturbing.
"(It's) disturbing to everyone involved, particularly when you've got a baby involved and to find out it's a hoax later on is really distressing for the call-taker," he said.
"They put that effort, professionalism and calm manner into the call and it's an emotional toll that they take."
He said it was also dangerous because resources were being wasted on someone who did not need them.
