Queensland premier Anna Bligh has departed on a thirteen-day trade mission to Japan, Indian and China.

The premier said she was scheduled to have a series of high-level meetings to discuss export and other 'collaborative' opportunities for Queensland during the trip.

"Japan, India and China are some of Queensland’s largest export destinations, accounting for over 40 percent of the State’s exports at a value exceeding $14.7 billion," she said.

“These are some of the most vibrant markets in the world and they are certainly among the most important markets for Queensland."

“I welcome this chance to put faces to names and meet personally with such important trade partners.

The premier is to meet major steel companies in Japan to discuss Queensland's infrastructure plans, including a new coal seam plant near Roma. Japan took $4.4 billion worth of Queensland coal last financial year.

“My priority in India will be progressing opportunities across biotechnology and clean coal with federal Government Ministers,’’ Ms Bligh said.

Coal exports in India generated $1.9 billion for the state's economy last year.
