A man's body was found in the river at Queanbeyan in southern New South Wales at the weekend, police have revealed today.
The body of the man, aged between 40 and 50, was recovered about 6.30pm last night.
It was discovered after a sweep of the waterway by Australian Federal Police divers, once police from the Monaro Local Area Command had secured a crime scene on the suspension bridge over the river about midday on Saturday.
Specialist forensics officers scoured the area for clues.
Local detectives and officers from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad are investigating the man's death.
They are asking for the public to come forward with information about anyone who was at a Monaro Street pub in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Witnesses are also being sought to a fight between Monaro Street and the Isabella Street suspension bridge between 11pm on Friday night and 9am Saturday morning.
A post mortem examination will be carried out in coming days to determine the man's cause of death. |
