The Royal Australian Air Force will celebrate its 87th birthday in Canberra today, marking the occasion with a flypast this afternoon.
An official birthday ceremony will be held at the Air Force Memorial on Anzac Parade from 1pm.
Parliamentary secretary for defence procurement Greg Combet, defence force head Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston and head of the Air Force Air Marshal Geoff Shepherd will be among the dignitaries at the ceremony.
The flypast will take place between 1.35pm and 1.55pm, the Air Force said.
Three Hawk aircraft from no.76 squadron based at RAAF Williamtown will fly west to east over the RAAF Memorial at around 1.40pm.
They will then fly south to north up Anzac Parade towards the War Memorial a few minutes later, turn right to go over the Australian Defence Force Academy, then east to west along Lake Burley Griffin overhead the National Museum.
Finally, the aircraft will go left to fly over Parliament House before departing northwards up Northbourne Avenue.
