Australian Wool Innovation have launched their annual telephone survey to gather information on behalf of their production forecasting committee.
Woolgrowers from across Australia are being asked about their farm conditions, flock management and production intentions for the 2008 season, which will guide the early wool production forecast for the following season.
Committee chairman Russell Pattinson said 1400 producers were taking part in the phone survey.
“The availability of objective and timely data greatly assists the forecasting process, and with changed seasonal conditions, this year’s survey is the most important to date," he said.
“The wool industry - from buyers in Australia through to fabric and garment manufacturers around the world - relies on accurate forecasts, which in turn help woolgrowers make informed production decisions."
“This type of information is keenly sought and used by businesses throughout the wool pipeline.”
Growers will be asked for details of their flock composition, joining intentions for 2008 and likely changes in production under scenarios of a normal break or extended dry conditions.
No individual information will be distributed, AWI said.
