Patients and visitors to Goulburn Base Hospital must now park their cars on the street instead of hospital grounds.

The only exception is for renal and physiotherapy patients, who have a designated parking area outside the treatment units.

The semi-circle at the front of the hospital will now be allocated parking for Visiting Medical Officers, emergency services and disabled parking from now on.

And one space for emergency drop-offs has also been allocated, but cars will only be allowed to park there for ten minutes.

Southern Tablelands health cluster manager Kerry Hort said the changes follow a comprehensive review of the traffic issues at Goulburn Base Hospital because of complaints about parking problems.

"A survey of hospital staff and residents in the Goldsmith Street area adjacent to the hospital was undertaken," she said.

"Medical staff clearly identified they needed parking where they could attend their patients in all emergency situations."

"Nurses identified that afternoon and night shift staff did not have suitable designated parking within an appropriate distance to the facility. Visitors identified there was not enough public parking available."

Ms Hort said the parking ban on the hospital grounds - and a direction to day staff to park on the side streets nearby - would free up spaces for public parking at the front.
